Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy, has accused Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, of promoting standards that he allegedly did not follow himself.
Onanuga, who sarcastically referred to Obi as a “saint,” said the former Anambra State governor was misleading his supporters. Obi had argued that Nigeria would now be extremely wealthy—possibly with more money than it could use—if public funds had been retained in banks by political leaders.
Responding to that comment, Onanuga cited the Panama Papers disclosures, alleging that Obi held offshore accounts and business interests that were not declared during his time as Anambra governor.
“Peter Obi likes to say things he doesn’t actually do. Remember the Panama Papers?” Onanuga wrote. “Peter Obi had undeclared offshore assets and business holdings when he was Anambra governor, as shown in the global leak reports. And here, Saint Peter is giving his opinion, fooling his followers.”
