Oyo APC Demands Probe Into Killing of Party Member in Ibadan

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has demanded an urgent security investigation into the killing of one of its members, Ridwan Adeyemo, describing the incident as disturbing and tragic.

Attack in Ibadan

  1. The party said Adeyemo was attacked and killed on Friday in the Agbokojo area of Ibadan.
  2. Adeyemo, an APC member in Ward 06 of Ibadan South West Local Government Area, worked as a commercial motorcycle rider.
  3. He died at the scene of the attack in the Ita-Barika area of Agbokojo, the party said.
  4. The APC alleged that a group of armed attackers hacked him to death and claimed the suspects were linked to the brother of a senior official of the state-backed Park Management System.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, urged security agencies to promptly establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible face prosecution.

Call for political restraint

Separately, APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli appealed to Ibadan elders to intervene and caution Governor Seyi Makinde and the Allied Peoples Movement’s governorship candidate, Abimbola Adekanmbi.

  1. Alli made the appeal while reacting to Adeyemo’s killing, saying intervention was needed to prevent further violence in Oyo State.
  2. In a statement signed by Bisi Oladele, director of his campaign organisation, Alli said no political aspiration should be pursued at the cost of a resident’s life.
  3. The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation alleged that Adeyemo had been murdered by hoodlums associated with the APM.
  4. It called on elders throughout the state to warn Makinde and Adekanmbi against bringing violence into Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
  5. The campaign organisation said it was surprised by what it described as the adoption of bloodshed as a campaign tactic, maintaining that neither politician’s ambition justified the death of any person anywhere in the state.
