Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has backed the proposed initial public offering (IPO) of Dangote Refinery, praising the project as evidence that Nigeria can shift from dependence on consumption toward stronger domestic production.
In a statement published on his verified X account on Wednesday, Obi congratulated Alhaji Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, for what he described as a major achievement for both Nigeria and Africa. He urged other Nigerian companies to direct capital into productive areas of the economy and allow citizens to participate in the country’s reindustrialisation by making equity available through public offerings.
Obi said Nigerians living in the country and abroad had asked for his view on whether they should invest in the refinery’s ongoing IPO. He said he was encouraging them to purchase shares, while expressing pride in Dangote’s determination and success in developing Nigeria’s real economy across multiple industries.
