Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s security challenges, saying the country does not need a leader who leaves when crises arise.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday night at the launch of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council, Obi pledged that an administration led by him would be founded on integrity and public accountability.
“My government will be guided by integrity, hold officials accountable and make sure public money benefits citizens rather than private individuals,” Obi said. “I will not use the presidency for personal enrichment, nor will I permit anybody serving under me to divert Nigeria’s resources.”
He added that Nigeria should not accept “a government in which the president runs away whenever there is a problem.”
Obi said Tinubu had made more than 260 foreign trips over the past three years, while failing to spend 30 days travelling across all states in the federation to campaign and account for how public funds had been used.
“Our president has travelled outside Nigeria more than 260 times within the last three years, yet he cannot devote 30 days to visiting every state and explaining what he has done with their money during that period,” he said.
Obi described the situation as unacceptable and argued that Nigeria requires a political revolution capable of transforming the country.
