Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, said President Bola Tinubu should leave office after the 2027 election, while pledging an administration focused on solving economic and governance problems and confronting corruption.
Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council in Kaduna State, Obi said his campaign would not focus on assigning blame for Nigeria’s difficulties. Instead, he said those seeking office were being entrusted with the responsibility of delivering solutions.
“We are not going to blame anybody; we are not being hired to blame anyone. We are being hired to solve problems,” Obi said.
He said public funds must be protected from theft and directed toward services and projects that benefit Nigerians. Obi also promised a direct fight against corruption if elected president, saying he would neither misuse state money nor permit others in his government to steal public resources.
“We will stop people from stealing public money. Public money must be used for public good,” he said. “We will fight corruption head-on. Under my administration, I will not steal Nigerian money and I won’t allow anybody to steal what belongs to the good people of Nigeria. President Tinubu must go home.”
