Nigerian consumers can now handle a broader range of routine financial tasks through one platform, after Remita introduced its new Remita App at Nigeria Fintech Week 2026 in Lagos on Tuesday. The application brings several bank accounts, payment services and personal finance functions together, enabling users to transfer money, settle bills, purchase airtime and data, schedule repeat payments, monitor spending and oversee their finances without moving between separate apps.
The product represents a new consumer-focused phase for Remita, which has spent over 20 years providing payment infrastructure to companies, public-sector bodies and other institutions. The business plans to build on that experience by adding further financial products and functionality as the app develops.
“Remita has supported payments for businesses, government and institutions for more than two decades,” said ‘DeRemi Atanda, managing director and chief executive of Remita Payment Services Limited. “We are now putting that knowledge in consumers’ hands, giving them a central place for more of the financial tasks they perform every day. This is the next stage of our growth, shaped around the way people actually handle their money.”
Through participating banks and other financial institutions, customers can link several accounts and use the app for transfers, airtime and data purchases, electricity charges, other utility bills, government dues and merchant payments. Recurring transactions are also supported, while budgeting, spending analysis and other personal money-management tools are designed to help users monitor their finances.
The service also gives Remita a route into regional payments. In partnership with the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System, or PAPSS, users can draw funds from a local bank account and send money directly to accounts in other participating African countries through the app.
Remita said the consumer launch reflects the fragmented way many Nigerians currently access financial services. Adedayo Adewale, the company’s head of consumer and retail business, said the product was created to reduce the burden of switching between platforms for ordinary transactions. Consumers, she said, often use separate applications for separate needs but would prefer to initiate and finish their financial activities in one place.
Remita sponsored Nigeria Fintech Week 2026, using the event to meet participants from the country’s financial-technology sector while presenting its new consumer offering. Atanda said the evolution of payments would require infrastructure that reaches beyond transactions within Nigeria and supports broader African commerce. He described payment systems as having become part of the fiscal infrastructure of the economy, pointing to the rapid expansion over the past decade of instant payments, payment terminals, agent networks and financial inclusion. The next task, he said, is to extend that foundation to cross-border transfers financed from domestic bank accounts, which will require technology, regulation and cooperation to advance together.
The company’s entry into the consumer segment builds on a business that processes more than ₦100 trillion in transactions each year, most of it generated by corporate payments. Atanda said Remita’s decision to move closer to individual users followed its long experience across Nigeria’s payments market.
He recalled that the company was originally established to make it simpler for organisations to execute a wide range of payments. After years of operating in the sector, Remita concluded that its next phase should bring that expertise to consumers. With annual volumes above ₦100 trillion and corporate activity still the main driver, the company expects strong uptake of the app in the coming months.
Remita plans to broaden the application through its relationships with banks and other financial partners, introducing additional services and functions as its consumer business expands.
Those present at the Lagos event included Chuta Chimezie, founder and coordinator of the Blockchain Nigeria User Group; Adedayo Adewale; Dr Stanley Jacob, president of the Fintech Association of Nigeria; ‘DeRemi Atanda; and Tomi Akigbogun, marketing lead for Nigeria Fintech Week.
