Former England striker Alan Shearer has identified Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler as a potential successor to Michael Carrick at Manchester United, should the club decide to make a change after its difficult start to the Premier League campaign.
Carrick is facing increasing scrutiny at Old Trafford, with his position far from fully secure following a run of disappointing results. United are 13th in the league standings after drawing 1-1 with Leeds United at the weekend, and have managed only one victory from their first seven Premier League matches.
“If Michael Carrick is relieved of his duties, Fabian Hurzeler would be a good replacement, but it is a very different model at Brighton,” Shearer said in comments to Betfair.
Carrick was confirmed as Manchester United’s permanent head coach only a few months ago. He earned the role after leading the club into the Premier League’s top five and securing Champions League qualification.
