Sokoto Seals ADC Office Citing Ownership Dispute and Security Concerns

The Sokoto State Government has sealed an office used by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid unresolved questions about the building’s legal ownership.

Nasiru Dantsoho, the state commissioner for lands and housing, announced the action on Monday. He said the move was also aimed at averting another clash after a recent incident involving party supporters and suspected thugs.

Government checks found that the property remains registered in the name of the now-defunct Savannah Bank. The records reviewed showed no evidence that ownership had later been formally transferred.

Dantsoho said the state government had written to the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which manages the former bank’s assets, to determine the building’s present owner. The NDIC had not yet replied to the request.

The premises will remain closed until the corporation provides clarification and the state confirms the lawful owner, the commissioner said.

He urged any person or organisation asserting ownership of the property to submit supporting documents for official review, adding that the building would be released to the legitimate owner once the ownership dispute is settled.
