Taraba State Police Command has renewed its pledge to safeguard residents and their property, preserve public peace and deny criminals any refuge within the state, as it moves to improve the mobility of its violent-crime response team.
Refurbished vehicles handed to crime-response unit
Commissioner of Police Edwin Ogbeghagha gave the assurance on Monday while formally handing over refurbished operational vehicles to the Violent Crime Response Unit, known as the VCRU.
He directed the unit’s Officer-in-Charge, Ayuba Yohanna, and other personnel to deploy the vehicles efficiently to expand the team’s operational effectiveness.
- The vehicles are intended to improve the unit’s mobility across Taraba State.
- The investment is expected to strengthen the speed of police responses to incidents.
- It is also designed to raise operational preparedness for violent offences and other security risks.
Professional standards and logistics
Ogbeghagha urged VCRU officers to conduct their assignments with discipline, vigilance and professionalism. He said personnel must uphold the core principles of the Nigeria Police Force while also protecting citizens’ fundamental rights.
“Successful policing depends not just on commitment and professional conduct, but also on sufficient operational logistics to enable swift action against security threats,” the commissioner said.
He said the command would keep pursuing practical steps to build its operational strength and reinforce its campaign against criminal activity throughout the state.
Call for public cooperation
The police command appealed to residents to assist security agencies with prompt, reliable intelligence that can help stop crimes before they occur and support the arrest of suspects.
- Members of the public were encouraged to share credible information without delay.
- The command said all information provided by residents would receive appropriate confidential treatment.
- Police reaffirmed their focus on preventive policing, stronger operational performance and continued cooperation with communities.
Through these measures, the command said it aims to support a safer and more secure environment across Taraba State.
