Security concerns in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area and continuing military activity elsewhere in Taraba State have prompted authorities to defer the 50th anniversary celebrations of Zing Local Government Area and the 10th coronation anniversary of the Lamdo Gashaka.
The two functions had been due to take place on October 29 and October 31, 2026, but were moved to later dates because of the security situation. The Taraba State Security Committee secretary announced the postponements in a statement released on Monday.
The committee said the decision followed consultations with the state government after a recent security incident in Binari Village, within Amar Ward of Karim-Lamido Local Government Council, as well as continuing military operations in the vicinity of Gashaka-Gumti National Park in Gashaka Local Government Council.
The events affected include Zing Local Government Council’s golden jubilee programme and the planned presentation of a book chronicling the council’s history. That gathering had been set for October 29 at the Town Field in Zing.
Also delayed was the 10th anniversary celebration for the Lamdo Gashaka, Alhaji Zubairu Hammangabdo Muhammad Sambo. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at Serti Township Stadium in Serti.
The security committee said the measure was intended to protect invited guests, traditional leaders, public officials and residents, while giving security forces time to complete their operations.
Residents were asked to remain peaceful and comply with the law, while assisting security agencies with prompt and reliable intelligence that could support ongoing operations.
