The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has started rebuilding the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line after tower T367 collapsed in Yauri, Kebbi State.
Restoration work underway
- TCN said in a management statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, that the failed tower had been fully taken apart and formally decommissioned.
- Workers have repositioned the conductors and skywire in readiness for the next phase of the repair.
- An Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower has been transported to the site and is prepared for installation.
- Once the temporary tower is erected, crews will begin stringing cables and carry out the additional work needed to bring the line back into service.
The damage interrupted bulk power transmission along the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi corridor, affecting the movement of electricity through the network.
Cause and emergency declaration
TCN declared Force Majeure on the 330kV line on September 8, one day after the line tripped and tower T367 fell. The company’s initial assessment attributed the collapse to strong winds and rainstorms.
TCN has asked electricity customers and other stakeholders affected by the disruption to remain patient as restoration activities continue.
