Power has returned to parts of north-west Nigeria, including Kebbi and Sokoto states, after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) repaired a key transmission route nearly a month after the disruption began.
Quick facts
- Restored asset: the 330-kilovolt Kainji–Birnin Kebbi single-circuit transmission line
- Power became available for Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company at about 5:24 p.m. on Thursday, 1 October 2026
- TCN installed an Emergency Restoration System tower at Yauri
- The outage followed the collapse of Tower 367 on 7 September 2026
TCN said the line was brought back into service at 5:24 p.m. on Thursday, allowing Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to begin taking supply from the facility. The restoration was achieved through the installation of an Emergency Restoration System tower at the affected tower site in Yauri.
The transmission facility had been unavailable since Tower 367 collapsed on 7 September 2026. Its return is expected to improve electricity availability across the affected areas of Kebbi and Sokoto states.
