Jurgen Klopp has named Marc-Andre ter Stegen as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper for the forthcoming Nations League fixtures against Serbia and the Netherlands. The decision came with the release of the national squad, from which Barcelona forward Karim Adeyemi was a high-profile omission.
Ter Stegen, who is spending the season at Ajax on loan from Barcelona, was selected ahead of Jonas Urbig and Alexander Nubel. Klopp said the Amsterdam-based goalkeeper had earned the role through his form and the reassurance he can offer the team.
“Marc is enjoying an outstanding campaign in Amsterdam, while the other two have also been performing very well,” Klopp said. “We will enter these games with Marc as our number one. It is not simply a matter of deciding who is producing the best saves at a particular time, because goalkeepers must bring stability and confidence as well.”
