Parts of Abuja experienced a new electricity outage on Wednesday after a 100MVA transformer at the Apo 132kV/33kV transmission substation failed, disrupting supply across several distribution feeders.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation tripped during the early hours of the day. The company attributed the incident to oil leaking from the red-phase high-voltage bushing, a failure that affected four 33kV feeders: H31, H33, H35 and H37.
TCN said its maintenance personnel had begun a detailed examination of the transformer to determine the precise cause of the trip. The findings will guide repair work and efforts to return the equipment to service, the transmission operator said in its Wednesday notice.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that the resulting outage affected Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma, Apo Resettlement and other areas of the Nigerian capital.
The disruption follows an earlier TCN announcement of a blackout in parts of Abuja linked to scheduled maintenance.
