Two Dead, Several Injured in Separate Aba Traffic Crashes

Two people were killed in separate traffic incidents in Aba, Abia State, over the weekend, while several others required hospital treatment after a truck ploughed into a crowded commercial area.

The first crash occurred on Friday at the Osisioma Flyover junction, where a goods-laden truck veered into a shop. One adult male died at the scene and about six people were injured.

Witnesses said the vehicle had been travelling at speed before the driver lost control in the busy area, striking traders and pedestrians as it crashed. Those hurt in the incident were taken to hospital for urgent care.

Authorities had not determined whether the accident resulted from dangerous driving or a mechanical problem, including a possible brake failure.

Ngozi Ezeoma, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abia State, confirmed the Osisioma crash and said the person killed was an adult man.

In a separate accident on Port Harcourt Road in Aba on Sunday morning, an unidentified man was killed while heading to church. He was struck from behind by a motorcycle travelling at high speed, and died from the impact.
