Van der Vaart Backs Mbappé for 2026 Ballon d’Or

Former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has tipped Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé to claim the 2026 Ballon d’Or, with this year’s winner due to be revealed in London on Monday.

The former Netherlands international said Mbappé stands clearly above the rest of world football at present and pointed to the striker’s outstanding World Cup displays as justification for the prize.

Asked to name the likely winner, Van der Vaart said: “Kylian Mbappé. I believe he is currently the best player in the world by a considerable distance. He was magnificent at the World Cup, and I think he merits the award.”

Mbappé is expected to face serious competition for the Ballon d’Or from Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Barcelona wide player Lamine Yamal.
