Social media campaigner VeryDarkMan has accused Nigerian singer Zlatan Ibile of turning their public dispute into a promotional tool, claiming the artist inserted a new verse into a previously completed track to draw attention.
VeryDarkMan, widely known as VDM, said Zlatan appeared affected after some people who normally criticised VDM began backing the musician. He argued that the dispute was being leveraged to create buzz around the song.
In an online video, VDM alleged that the recording had been finished before Zlatan revised it to add the disputed lyrics.
“In fact, that song had already been done. They went back to edit it and put in that verse so it could blow up, and I do not mind,” he said.
He also alleged that several of his critics urged Zlatan to engage in the conflict, adding that Davido later became involved in the matter.
VDM downplayed Zlatan’s fan base, saying the singer had supporters but lacked the kind of deeply committed following that would make him treat the clash as a major issue.
Despite his criticism, he praised Zlatan’s abilities as a performer and said he enjoyed the artist’s music.
“Zlatan is a very talented artist. I like his songs,” he said.
However, VDM maintained that the controversy surrounding the late singer Mohbad was still among the reasons he held a negative view of Zlatan.
“That Mohbad matter is one of the reasons I do not like Zlatan,” he added.
