World renowned saxophonist, Andrew Young, has once again touched down at “one of his favourite places in the world.” Young will team up with the Kearsney College Choir in KZN for a concert tomorrow (Thursday, 11 Oct) to raise funds for Wozamoya, Hillcrest AIDS Centre which is doing phenomenal work in the community in helping empower AIDS sufferers.
Speaking to East Coast Radio’s Anisa Ussuph, Andrew, who visited the centre earlier this week, says he was incredibly moved by the experience. “To see people who really were at death’s door, they have reclaimed their lives and it is awesome to see, it really is.”
Andrew has a long history with South Africa, having lived in Durban for a while before moving abroad again. He now lives in Vienna and travels the world but says nothing compares to returning to South Africa. “I have always felt I was on holiday here. For the time I lived in Durban and every time I have returned I have always felt as if I was on holiday even if I was working. And that is because of the manner and the nature of the people. You are all so so friendly.”
Tickets for Andrew Young’s concert at Kearsney are available through Computicket or via Kearsney itself on 031 765 9659.
