The Times, Kaya FM and the Teatro at Montecasino present the first-ever Annual South African Comics’ Choice Awards, a star-studded event directed and produced by co-founder John Vlismas.
There are five categories in which comedians can be awarded. They include:
- Breakthrough Act, for the newcomer who has made the most impact moving from newcomer to established act over the last year;
- Comic’s Choice, the comic who makes the most impact as an established act;
- Lifetime Achiever Award, for the comic who has been working the industry for 25 years or more and whose work is considered valuable;
- Newcomer Award, for comics with between one and two years of professional comedy experience who has made the largest impact on the industry over the last year; and
- Audience Choice, for the comic who receives the most votes by the public, on the basis of SMS voting.
The evening promises to be filled with entertainment from the comics themselves, as well as musical performances and some surprises.
Local comedians can register for the awards online, but they need to pay to vote. All professional comedians can enter.
