The authorites have found that Whitney Houston died by drowning, though her chronic cocaine use played a role in her demise.

The announcement on Thursday ended prolonged speculations concerning the cause of the celebrated Diva’s untimely death.

Houston’s body was found submerged in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on the evening prior to the Grammy Awards ceremony in February. Investigators discovered numerous prescription medications on the scene, but officials have since found that the singer did not ingest a fatal dose prior to her death.

According to SAPA, Coroner’s spokesman Craig Harvey said that an autopsy confirmed that Houston was a dedicated user of cocaine.

Cocaine metabolites were found in Houston’s blood, and recorded as a contributing factor in her death. You can watch a tribute to Whitney below.
