Drum Denies Lies

July 17th, 2012

Drum editor Makhosazana ‘Khosi’ Zwane-Siguqa has responded with “disappointment” after readers of the magazine slammed a recent cover story concerning Bonang Matheba’s tempestuous relationship with DJ Euphonik.

Presenter and model Bonang was on thecover of the 19 July edition of the popular magazine, alongside headlines promising exclusive insights into how Euphonik is out to destroy her in the aftermath of her decision to press assault charges against him.

“Exclusive: Claims on how Euphonik is out to get her after she reported alleged assault – Plus his response” read the copy on the cover of the magazine. But interest in the story would soon be deflated.

Bonang took to Twitter to inform her fans that she had never even spoken to Drum magazine, let alone provided them with exclusive revelations.

“@KhosiandherDrum you DID NOT interview me, so how do u go and quote me on shit I didn’t say?! Huh?!” tweeted a clearly incensed Bonang on Saturday.

Soon, readers and fans of Bonang were taking to the Drum Facebook page in droves to take a swipe at the magazine for what they felt was shoddy journalism.

Khosi decided to intervene, posting a full explanation on Drum’s website, in which she seems to suggest that the exclusive revelations came not from the Zaleb herself, but bizaarely enough, from her legal team.

“Friends, I have noted with much disappointment some comments posted on Twitter and Facebook regarding our cover star Bonang Matheba. While Bonang Matheba did not avail herself for an interview I personally met with her legal representatives to discuss the merits of our story,” wrote the editor.

“DRUM’s values are integrity, professionalism, respect and ubuntu,” she  continued, before warning that any “misinformed judgement” or “derogatory remarks” posted about either Bonang or Euphonik on DRUM’s social media platforms would be taken down.

But Khosi’s explanations were insufficient for some. One fan @MoffatMok voiced her displeasure in a tweet to Bonang, saying:

“@DrumMagazine has clearly just decided to become a douchebag publication…well done @KhosiandherDrum!”

Bonang responded: “two FULL pages of lies!!”

Bonang and her former boyfriend Themba Nkosi, who is popularly known as DJ Euphonik, are slugging it out in court after she accused him of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and malicious damage to property.

Euphonik claims to be  innocent of all the charges.

The case is being tried at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

  1. I don’t know what people see in this ugly girl. Her voice is not sweet, she’s too skinny, she wears fake her… oh please stop smothering us with stories of attention seekers such as this girl. She thinks she’s the IT whilst there are so many kasi wow babes that would leave her flat faced. If the DJ has indeed assaulted or even damaged her property, he must account and take responsibility of his action. Pity most men will not learn from this unAfrican abusive bahaviour that African Black men have adopted from the past
