Nomuzi is the new face of MTV Base! We caught up with the rising star to find out how her first two weeks at work have been…
So your first show on MTV Base started last week Friday, you must be so excited! What are you hoping to bring to MTV?
MTV Base is definitely a company and channel which has its own definitive culture –so I want to really just bring myself to the show.
My presenting style is very conversational and relevant to the people who are watching MTV. I’m just this kid from Benoni with the big dream – it’ll be a nice contrast against Sizwe who’s ‘mister cool’.
Ultimately I’d like to get involved behind the scenes with production and the likes but for now I’m just trying to give them the best shows I can.
Who’s the one artist you’re most looking forward to interviewing?
There’s quite a few actually! Locally I’d say Reason because he’s also like the new kid on the block. Internationally, there’s a lot of people that are coming through to SA in the next few months. So definitely Kanye West… I’m going to track him down! I think if MTV does get a chance to interview him, myself and Sizwe are going to fight it out! Lady Gaga is also coming down and I think that might be a very interesting interview to conduct. I’ll just have to wait and see who I can interview…
So, come the 2nd of February 2013, Sizwe and you will be fighting it out over Kanye hey…
I think Sizwe already has first dibs on the Kanye interview because he’s done the voice overs and has been handing out tickets and stuff. But maybe if I give him my puppy dog eyes he’ll let me. We’ll see!
Can you tell us about one perk that you get to enjoy now that you’re an MTV VJ?
Week one has just been about work man! I haven’t really enjoyed any perks just yet. One thing that is pretty cool is that I’m being dressed by Guess for the next six months. So I get to walk in the store and pick out whatever I want.
So a couple days ago you tweeted that Sizwe stole your lunch at work. Has he done it again since then?
I haven’t brought any lunch to the office since that day… I’ve learnt my lesson!
It’s funny because people in the office warned me about him and I was like no man, he’d never do that. The first thing he did when he walked into the office was steal my lunch although he insists he didn’t steal it…he says he just took it. Sizwe’s a bully but we have a very cool relationship. He’s like the cool older brother that I look up to. He’s a cool guy and I have a lot of fun with him.
