We’ve noticed a new trend of power couples developing between some of our favourite sport stars and ladies in the entertainment industry. Here’s a look at some of our favourites.

Karlien and Derick

The Liefling of Loftus and former Springbok flyhalf, Derick Hougaard is back in the country for good and hoping to don his Blue Bulls shirt again! And after proposing earlier this year, he has his very own Liefling by his side – Karlien van Jaarsveld, Afrikaans singer and the popular Bobby van Jaarsveld’s sister. And poor Derick reckons asking Karlien to marry him was tougher than playing rugby!

Sonia and Matthew

Then we have Ajax Cape Town, and former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth and his beautiful wife Sonia Bonneventia, who have two kids together. He says of Sonia – former Miss SA first princess and international model-turned-businesswoman – “She has the beauty AND the brains – I’m not quite sure what she sees in me!”

Minnie and Itumeleng

And the hottest young power couple (and the most secretive) is World Cup star goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and presenter/actress Minnie Dlamini. Itumeleng was Minnie’s favourite soccer player before they even met and they’re apparently getting married soon. We’ve also heard a few birdies mentioning pregnancy rumours!
