This week Sunday (17 June at 17:30) theIdols judges arrive in Cape Town in true helicopter star style to find a singer who could just turn out to be the Mother City’s record-setting fifth Idols winner. 

But before they find “the one with the golden voice”, they discover some spirited individuals who take Idols to a new dimension in season eight. The voices in their head are far more impressive and entertaining than the ones filling the audition room. Then there’s also starstruck, giggling, Dean Joshua Thomas, who literally “grabbed” his opportunity to sneak a handful of Gareth’s gym-toned celebrity-gluteus maximus!

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed MD of Universal Music South Africa, notorious judge Randall Abrahams, gets a new name from contestants. Make sure you’re tuned in right at the start of the show at 17:30 to find out what they call Randall.

Randall, who was battling a head cold however, was in no mood for nonsense and devised a way to deal with wannabe Idols whom he wanted to disappear from the room.

In between the over-familiar fans, the cross-dressers and the show-offs in adult nappies, the Idols judges did manage to unearth 29 pretty amazing voices to put through to the next round – the Theatre Phase at Sun City. Who will they be?
