The Top 6 remaining Idols don’t have time to think too much about Tuesday night’s Result Show, when they had to bid farewell to Dominic Neill, because this week they face their busiest week yet as Idols!
This Friday [31 August] at the Mosaïek Teatro the Top 6 will record what is probably the biggest show on the Idols calendar every year: the “Showstoppers” Spectacular! To help them prepare for this demanding show the Idols have roped in Season 6 runner up Lloyd Cele to help them with their stage performance and dance moves.
Idols’ “PK” from Durban, Khaya Mthethwa, is planning to stop the show this week with his version of the Keri Hilson/Kanye West/Ne-Yo hit, “Knock You Down”, and his fellow Durbanite, Sheki Donnell, is performing Britney Spears’ “Till The World Ends”. Tshidi Tenyane chose Beyoncé “Crazy In Love” as her Showstopper anthem and Monde Msutwana chose “Scream”, by Usher. And having ended up in the Bottom 3 this week, Simphiwe Gwegwe and Melissa Allison have a lot riding on their choices: Chris Brown’s “Turn Up The Music” for Simphiwe and Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” for Melissa.
As a group, the Top 6 will also perform 30 Seconds To Mars’ “Closer To The Edge”.
The day after the recording of the “Showstopper” Spectacular, on Saturday, 1 September, the Top 6 will be at Cresta Shopping Centre in Randburg at 12:30 (afternoon) for the annual Mzansi Magic Market Day, where they will encourage Gauteng’s budding young entrepreneurs and sign autographs.
Then it’s off to Riversands Farm in Fourways, Johannesburg, at 14:00 where they will join artists like Prime Circle, the Graeme Watkins Project, Lloyd Cele, Goldfish, Toya Delazy, Locnville and MiCasa on stage at the annual Jo’burg Day concert!
And the next day, Sunday, 2 September, the Top 6 will be at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton and shoppers will be treated to a screening of the Top 6 Spectacular and an autograph signing session with their favourite Idols between 16:00 and 20:00. Space is limited and autographs are first-come, first-served, so fans should get there early to secure a good spot!
The Idols Season 8 Top 6 Spectacular airs on M-Net and M-Net HD and Mzansi Magic on Sunday, 2 September, at 17:30.
