Kelly Khumalo: Good Girl Gone Bad?

September 17th, 2012

Last night Kelly Khumalo’s new reality TV show, ”Rolling with Kelly” premiered on Etv. ZAlebs caught up with Kelly to find out more!

How are you feeling, you must be very excited?

I’m nervous, excited and scared… all at the same time. It is what it is, I can’t change anything now – it’s too late to change anyway!

How many episodes have you watched so far?

I’ve seen all the episodes because I wanted to make sure that I’m being portrayed the best possible way. I can honestly say that I’m happy with everything.

So, is what we’re seeing 100% Kelly Khumalo?

Absolutely! I realised that people don’t know who I am as a person. They believe what they read in the papers and what the media says but they’ve never seen me for who I really am. So the reality show is going to show them that.

There seems to be a whole host of local reality shows which have hit our screens – are you a fan of any of them?

I watched Hlelo and Ntando’s show “Blame it on Fame” a lot. I’ve also watched Dineo’s show as well as Forever Young….I watch all the local reality shows.

How do you think your show will stand out from the rest?

I’m not competing with anyone; I cannot define what their reality is. Only they can define it. So I’m not in a position to say this isn’t reality enough – only they can tell us what is good enough.

Let’s talk about your son Christian – are we going to see him on the show?

You are going to see him in the show but I’ve tried to really, really minimise it. I feel he has a right to say whether he wants to be on the show or not. At the end of the day, as much as he’s my son, he has his own life. I need to respect t that up until he’s old enough to say, “Mommy I wanna be in the limelight!”

Do you think he’ll want to follow in mommy’s footsteps?

He is a superstar! He loves attention. He loves singing and dancing – I think he’s going to be in the industry.

Emotionally speaking, where are you at right now?

I’ve experienced everything in my life. I was a good girl, I went bad. I fell; I picked myself up…so I know pretty much everything about life. I can safely say that I’ve been to the University of Hard Knocks – I’ve seen it all.

Right now I’m in a very good space. I’ve never been happier. I was telling my manager earlier, that even as nervous as I am, I am so happy.

What can we expect to hear from your new album?

The album is called “The Past, The Present, The Future”.  The past is where I came from, the present is where my mind set and spirituality is right now and the future is where I would ultimately like to be.

The album will be in stores on the 28th of this month. I can’t wait but I’m also nervous. It’s a very interesting journey – I feel like I have brought myself out there for the world to see. They’re not dealing with what the media has to say, they’re dealing with me and what I have to say now!

Watch Rolling with Kelly, Sundays 6:30pm on Etv.
