On Saturday last week, local socialite and attention hog Khanyi Mbau announced on SABC1′s Real Goboza that she is carrying the child of Kwela Tebza’s frontman Tebogo Lerole.

But according to an article in Sunday World yesterday, the former  wife of businessman Mandla Mthembu was lying about the pregnancy in a misguided attempt to gain the approval of Lerole’s family.

Sources close to the couple told the paper that Mbau fabricated the pregnancy to win over her boyfriend’s family, after they expressed their disapproval of her loose and lavish lifestyle.

“Khanyi’s desperation to endear herself to the family made her to say that on TV,” said a source close to the couple, who asked to remain anonymous.

Khanyi’s deception only served to further antagonise the Lerole’s however.

“Now her actions have angered Tebogo’s mother and she had strong words with her soon after the dramatic public announcement,” the source told the paper.

“Mama Thembi wasn’t even aware that Khanyi was ‘pregnant’. She only learnt about it on Saturday.

“After Khanyi’s dramatic announcement, Mama Thembi called Tebogo to demand an explanation about what she said,” added the source.

Another insider told the paper that Mama Thembi also had a few choice words for her son about his own conduct.

“She also accused Tebogo of being secretive when it comes to issues relating to the family.”

When the paper called Mbau to ask for her comments on the matter, she not only denied saying she was pregnant, but claimed she was never on the Real Gaboza to begin with.

“I’ve never been on Real Goboza. I’ve never said I am pregnant and I am lying low for now,” she said before abruptly ending the call.

Lerole had nothing to say when contacted by the paper.
