Meet the Fly Chix!

January 14th, 2013

Vuzu viewers who love a regular dose of local brewed reality television are in for a fierce treat when a brand new series makes its debut on Wednesday, 30 January at 19:30.

Fly Chix is the title of the ten-part series that starts weeks after Tol A$$ Mo and Mome had viewers in stitches on MoLove.

Fly Chix is an all-female, fabulous and fresh South African group made up of talented singers and dancers Denise, Joy, Zeena and Takkies. The show revolves around their introduction to the music industry. Viewers will be given an all access look into their lives and most importantly how their families deal with their career choice as well as the obstacles that are part and parcel of the cut-throat music industry.

In the season premiere we witness the birth of The Flychix and get a behind the scenes look into their first music video shoot. We jet off to Durban for a performance where drama soon unfolds.

So who are these sassy trendsetters?

Born and raised in the North West, Kopano Denise Zimba found herself in love with the stage at a very young age. She was once a backing vocalist and dancer for Jozi and with her theatre background, and amazing voice, she has the capability to leave any audience in awe. “I’m young and sassy and believe in Girl Power! I am here to make a difference and leave a mark in the entertainment industry. I get what I want and will not stop till I have it,” says Denise.

Joy’s passion comes from honing her talent and giving back to the community in Riverlea. She has worked with international choreographers like Laurie- Anne Gibson. She is currently studying for a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. “God says your gift shall make room for you and I trust in God that I will make it in this industry,” she says.

People speak of dynamite coming in small packages and Zeena Edwards from Riverlea Johannesburg personifies that statement. “A performer’s life is like a very long journey to an unknown destination because it’s never really about the destination. It’s the journey that makes all the difference,” says Zeena.

Perhaps the most energetic of the group, Nkateko “Takkies” Maswanganye was born in Tembisa. She has travelled the world extensively over the years pursuing her passion for dance and in the process obtained training from Mia Michaels – an American choreographer best known for her judging and contemporary choreography on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance – as well as Wade Robson. “Music just speaks to me, no matter what style,” says Takkies.
