Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane will hand over her crown to a new winner this weekend after admitting to have had an amazing last year in the limelight.
The 2012 Miss South Africa will be crowned at Sun City on Sunday.
Montjane has enjoyed some incredible experiences during her time as South Africa’s premier beauty queen, but she hopes that her work on teenage pregnancy and literacy will be remembered for years to come.
“I had a lot of fun this year. It has been an amazing and overwhelming year,” the 25-year-old told Sowetan.
“I have grown so much in such a short time. I want to be remembered as a young woman who touched on important issues like teenage pregnancy and literacy.
“I met the girls last Sunday and it was such a surreal experience. They were asking me questions and wanted tips from me and I was just laughing because last year this time, I had been in a similar position.”
“I have mixed emotions about Sunday. Just like last year, my life is going to change overnight. The handover does not happen over a month. It is just a matter of seconds,” she added.
“I am going to be sad because I have come to love my country and its people so much. Travelling overseas and representing the country has showed me what a lovely country this is. But I am also excited because I am going to get to do other things.”
Do you believe Bokang represented South Africa well during her tenure?
