What happens once you’ve won the biggest reality show in the country? Mzansi Magic’s cameras followed Idols Season 8 winner, Khaya Mthethwa, for an eventful 48 hours, as he boarded a plane to his hometown, Durban, after many weeks of hectic Idols activities.
Move: The Rise of Khaya Mthethwa is a two-part special insert that will give viewers a glimpse into the life of South Africa’s newest singing sensation. Part 1, which focuses on Khaya’s homecoming, will premiere on Mzansi Magic on Sunday, 4 November at 16:00, while Part 2, a concert at uShaka Marine World, will be on air on Sunday, 11 November at 16:00.
Part 1 is filled with press interviews, mayoral convoys, autograph signing sessions as well as an emotional open top bus tour around the city of Durban, where Durbanites came in their thousands to welcome their golden boy home. Here, Khaya’s fans get a front row seat during the celebrations, whilst also seeing how he handles his newfound fame.
Part 2, on Sunday, 11 November at 16:00 is titled “The Homecoming Concert” and Khaya gets to say his thank you to his fans when he performs for his adoring hometown. Shot at uShaka Marine World, the concert features all the hits that he performed during his time on Idols as well as a sneak preview of his new album which includes the mega hit single “Move”.
