One-On-One With Fistaz Mixwell

December 13th, 2012

With more than ten years in the House music circuit and a number of accolades under he’s belt, DJ Fistaz Mixwell is showing no signs of slowing down! he’s given us compilations such as Mixwell Xpensive and Mixwell Collectiv and with his latest offering, Mixwell Addictv, Fistaz successfully proves to us once again why he’s a veteran in the game.

You’re known to bring out that “Feel good” factor in people through your music, but it seems as though with this album you decided to take your fans on a journey that encompasses all the positive and negative aspects of being in a relationship, especially with songs like I’m free, Imagine and Hadde Mabebeza (sorry baby). Was that initially your aim for this album, to create a relationship inspired mix?

Yes, most definitely. If you look at the previous singles like “Revenge” and “You’re going to get it” they all reference the challenges of being in a relationship and both singles received a great response from my fans.  So because of that positive response I decided to do an album dedicated to relationships.

Hadde mabebeza has been receiving raving reviews in the club scene as well as on radio. Could you briefly tell us about the production process behind that song with VaalSow?

I actually met VaalSow at a club and they approached me offering to do a track with me. I agreed and told them to come up with a beat which I of course loved. William from VaalSow decided to write the lyrics for the song, I just made a couple of adjustments here and there in terms of direction.

Which single on the album do you plan on promoting next?

Definitely “I’m free” featuring a lady called Mellow Soul. The reason being that on the social networks, every person who’s bought the album constantly tells me how much they love that song. People can also expect a video for that single too.

What’s your personal favourite track on Mixwell Addictiv and why?

My favourite track would be Penetrate simply because of its energy and the way we accidently created that beat with a producer known as Marisky.  I just had the most fun doing that song compared to the other songs on the album.
