The trial of former Blue Bulls’ rugby player Phindile Joseph Ntshongwana would continue in the High Court in Durban on Monday.
It was postponed last Thursday when Ntshongwana’s lawyer, Themba Mjoli said his client looked agitated.
Mjoli said this was a symptom of Ntshongwana’s illnesses, a bipolar condition and schizophrenia.
Earlier, a woman who he allegedly raped in November 2010 took to the stand.
She said Ntshongwana had raped her without a condom in the three days he held her captive and he seemed to believe she was his girlfriend. She said they had never met before then.
“He asked me why I killed his child,” said the woman who may not be identified.
She would only face cross-examination on Wednesday as she was writing exams.
Ntshongwana faced charges of kidnapping and rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
He was also charged with the murder of Thembelenkosini Cebekhulu in Montclair on March 20, 2011, Paulos Hlongwa two days later, Simon Ngidi the following day, and an unidentified man sometime that week.
All were hacked to death with an axe.
He faces two other charges of attempted murder. He has pleaded not guilty.
