Durban surfers Travis Logie and Jordy Smith have made it through to the round of 16 at the six-star rated Mr Price Pro, Ballito.
They are the only two South African surfers to have clinched a spot in the top 16 at the premier surfing event.
Meanwhile, Beyrick De Vries (see video interview) was beaten in the round of 24 early on Friday afternoon (06.07.12). The Umhlanga surfer lost a tight contest to Australian Nathan Hedge, with a final heat score of 13.47 to 13.34.
There was huge support for De Vries on the beach, with the crowd erupting into cheers after his final wave.
He posted the best result of his career, finishing equal 17th.
