The Emerging Sounds Challenge is open to all bands and groups in and around Gauteng irrespective of musical styles.

Now in its 16th year this event has been used as a platform for hundreds of bands to both launch and further their musical careers.

This year’s event in conjunction with TOMS Sandton and Openroom Productions offer bands and groups the opportunity of playing themselves to a ALTO Pro Pa System courtesy of TOMS Sandton and the opportunity of recording at Openroom Studios with award winning producer Darryl Torr. Music guru Dave Chislet author of ‘One Two One Two’ will also sit down with the winning band advising them on how they can draw up a concrete musical plan for 2013.

For the first time bands also have the opportunity of earning monies from playing in this years Emerging Sounds Challenge and every band performing in the Johannesburg leg of the event also qualifies for a 50% discount on recording packages at Openroom Studios.

Bands performing in this year’s event during theJohannesburgleg will get a 50% discount on one of the following two recording packages at Openroom Studios: both packages include a sound engineer.

The event is open to all bands irrespective of musical style because bands are judged on their overall performance on the night by a panel of judges. There is no crowd voting. Each band performing in this event will also receive constructive feedback from the judges after each performance. Bands are judged purely on their performance on the night and not on their style of music.

TOMS Sandton is also supplying the backline comprising MARSHALL(Valve) electric guitar amps, Edenbass amp, Fishman Acoustic Guitar amp and a TAMA drum kit.

Over the past 15 years the Emerging Sounds Challenge has created platforms for hundreds of bands including: Seether (Saron Gas), the Parlotones, Prime CircleFreshly Ground, the Blk Jacks, 340ml, Plush, 1st Project, the Finkelsteins, Pestroy and Taxi Violence to name a few.

This event has never been about finding the freshest latest sound – it has always judged bands on their performance on that specific day at that specific time. After all you are only as good as your last performance and it is our belief that every time a band plays on stage that performance must be the best one they have ever performed.
