Teen star ChianoSky describes her music as “smoky, jazz-pop” but says she does not like to be boxed into a category. 19-year-old ChianoSky’s debut album Hungry has positioned her in airwaves across the country with singles such as Sick, Sick, Walking Away and Home Sweet Home. “I didn’t want every song on the album to sound the same, “she’s told East Coast Radio’s Anisa Ussuph. “I don’t want any of my music to sound like I’m singing the same song over again, you know.”

ChianoSky has also revealed that Walking Away is based on personal experience. “I did have heartbreak of my own last year. You know being a singer, it’s kind of the only way we get to express ourselves.”

While the teen singer, who is described as “one of the most exciting, fresh and talented new discoveries” is living her dream at the moment, she stresses that she has her eye on the international scene in the near future. “Now that the album’s out, I really hope that by the beginning of next year I will be making my way overseas. That is definitely my next dream: making it internationally!”

With influences ranging from afar afield as Nina Simone, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Adele and especially Amy Winehouse, ChianoSky has found an original voice and style all her own.

“My mom named me, after a friend of hers Luciano, so Chiano has Italian roots. My mom was also a bit eccentric and artistic, and she always used to say the sky is not the limit, so that’s where ChianoSky was born.”

No doubt about it, this young musician is certainly reaching for the stars.
