Victor Matfield may have retired from international rugby, but that hasn’t kept him out of the spotlight.

The former springbok lock has lent his bronzed visage to an advertising campaign for Dove soap, in which he smilingly assures viewers that he is comfortable in his own skin.

Matfield reveals that it was a lack of pace that prevented him from playing in the back line, and a lack of fitness that led him to avoid the loose forward positions. And to think we though he was a lock because he’s really tall.

Earlier this year, Dove Men + Care unveiled Matfield as the latest poster-boy for their line of personal hygiene and beauty products.

Matfield, who graduated into the cerebral world of sports broadcasting following his retirement, will join such sporting luminaries as  American basketball star Shaquille O’Neal as a brand ambassador for the health care brand.
