The South African sprinter, who became the first disabled runner to compete in the Olympics, has beat an Arabian horse in a race.

Oscar took on the champion horse, named Maserati, in the “run like the wind” race in Qatar earlier this week.

The 26-year-old beat the horse over 200-metres, after taking advantage of a 15-metre head start.

The race formed part of a campaign named ‘Definitely Able’, which aims to highlight the positive contribution that people with disabilities have made to local communities, and to raise awareness of what people with disabilities can do.

“It wasn’t about who won today, it was just about coming out here and showing people that those with disabilities should not be stereotyped against,” said Oscar, speaking after his win.

“Having the Arab horse out here, which is a symbol of strength and power in this region … hopefully it will do a lot to change the perceptions of people with disabilities in this region,”

The Blade Runner flew back into Jo’burg this morning. Shortly after touching down on home soil he congratulated a friend who has just got engaged.

“Just landed in Jozi! Congratulations to my brov @TheFrisco_kid on getting down on one knee this morning! May you love be eternal! ”
