Zahara has confirmed her status as the queen of the local pop scene after being nominated for seven awards at the upcoming South African Music Awards.

On Thursday morning, the eyes of SA’s music aficionados were trained on Newtown, Johannesburg, as the announcement of this year’s SAMA nominees took place.

Few would have been surprised to see that the Loliwe singer is up for Record of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Best Newcomer, amongst other awards.

Other artists to register on the SAMA’s radar include Mi Casa, whose tune ‘These Streets’ has been nominated for Record of the year, and rapper Zakwe. Both acts are up for five awards each.

The MTN SAMA 18 will take place on Sunday April 29th and Monday April 30th at Sun City.
