If celebrity break-ups in 2012 made you sob, then our list of hook-ups will leave you shocked! We’ve narrowed the list down to bring you the 10 most talked about romances of the year.
Split-ups
Bonang Matheba and DJ Euphonik
Nothing will end an already-tumultuous relationship like a violent beating with a cellpone, as Bonang Matheba proved this year. The other side of the story is of course; nothing would end an already-tumultuous relationship like false accusations of abuse.
Jeannie D’s engagement to UK model/businessman Jon Firth came to an end this year after the TV presenter revealed that maintaining a relationship in the public eye life was not all it’s cracked up to be and that she saw a future for them in which divorce was just too likely.
Karlien van Jaarsveld and Derrick Hougaard
The darling of Loftus and his singer fiancée perhaps set a record for the most amicable split ever when they first postponed, then cancelled their wedding. In a frank interview with Rapport, both parties revealed that marriage simply was not what God had in mind for them right now. Fair enough.
Pam Andrews and Cedric Thivillon
Rhythm City actress Pam Andrews announced her impending divorce on Twitter, saying that the split is amicable and that she and her French husband still respect each other and will remain friends. This despite rumours of the relationship being abusive rumours that the actress has since denied.
Prompting the largest collective yelp of ‘Told you so!’ in history, Katie Holmes finally left her husband, megastar Tom Cruise, after an excruciatingly improbable five-year relationship. Perhaps the most enduring result of the relationship (aside from footage of THAT interview) will be the ridiculously entertaining glut of conspiracy theories surrounding their unconvincing romance.
This one really took us all by surprise. Former supermodel turned TV producer and her dashing singer husband, Seal, announced their separation in January of this year. The couple famously renewed their wedding vows every year on their anniversary throughout their 7-year marriage, sadly proving that romance does not conquer all.
Hook-ups
Minki van der Westhuizen and Ernst Joubert
Saracens rugby star Ernst Joubert took a giant leap towards title of ‘luckiest man on earth’ when he married former swimsuit model and TV presenter Minki van der Westhuizen. The two tied the knot in Wellington in June this year.
Singer turned musical crimefighter, Danny K married the ‘woman of his dreams’, Lisa Gundelfinger in a ceremony in Somerset West this year. Lisa is an advocate, former swimsuit model and daughter of the most respected divorce attorney in the country.
Jo-Ann Strauss and Michael Helm
Former Miss South Africa, Jo-Ann Strauss married German orthopaedic surgeon Michael Held in a small, private ceremony in Camps Bay this year. Despite her profile, the popular TV personality kept details of the wedding very private, going so far as not even revealing the venue.
Against all expectations, the relationship between two of the biggest fame-gluttons on the planet was not only legitimate, it also appears to be thriving. Adorable Instagrams and the occasional reference to each other in their various professional ‘outputs’ (Kanye had a guest spot on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Kim appears in one of Kanyes videos) makes even the most cynical bystanders hope that this isn’t some attempt at self-promotion.
