Television host Amanda du Pont has broadened her horizons as part of the cast for a local romantic comedy.
According to the Daily Sun, the Real Goboza host is soon to make her debut appearance on the silver screen, as a character called Nisha in a romcom called Between Friend.
The film is being likened to American romantic comedies like Think like a Man, The Best Man Holiday, and Madea's Family Reunion, and tells the story of a group of university friends who reunite at a KwaZulu-Natal game lodge seven years after graduation. Secret memories of a wild night they spent together during their varsity day haunt their get-together, though, and starts causing friction within their current relationships as the truth slowly but surely starts to emerge.
Speaking to the publication about her introduction to a film set, Amanda said: "It's the first time I'll be starring in a movie. It's an exciting experience as the film is about love. The movie can be compared to 'Why did I get Married?'. I enjoyed playing my character."
As Nisha in the film, Amanda plays the trophy girlfriend of a suave and successful entrepreneur called Nkanyiso, who reluctantly agreed attend the reunion. The role of Nkanyiso is portrayed by Thapelo Mokoena, who most recently played anti-apartheid activist Elias Motsoaledi in Nelson Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
The cast also includes actors Lihle Dhlomo, Mandisa Nduna, Dunisani Mbebe, Siyabonga Twala, and Morne Du Toit.
Between Friends will premiere at the Durban International Film Festival in mid July before it opens in cinemas on 15 August 2014.
