BET A-list has way too many presenters

Seriously, what does a 30-minute show need this many team members for?

BET A-list has way too many presenters

BET A-List recently revealed three new additions to its existing team and while the focus has been on the fact that Jessica Nkosi, Nomzamo Mbatha and K Naomi are coming on board as the new team members, everyone seems to be missing the fact that the 30-minute show now has a total of SEVEN, yes seven team members.

The show retrospectively covers the week in fashion, music, movies and entertainment from around the world but also reports from local events across the country (mostly Johannesburg).

Shows which also do this and have an equally big team include SABC 3 shows Top Billing, Expresso Morning Show and Afternoon Express as well as SABC 2 show Pasella and VUZU's V-Entertainment

Mbatha, Nkosi and K Naomi will be joining Jesse Suntele who now graduates to in-studio presenter while K Naomi steps into his role as insert presenter - a job that she got last year and has been keeping a secret all along. Suntele will pretty much be the new Ayanda Thabethe (as she defected to Top Billing), doing what Nandi Madida does and the pair will be joined by Mbatha and Nkosi in those roles.

Relax, they won't all be in studio at the exact same time as they will be rotating studio time but it begs the question, what was wrong with just two in-studio presenters in the first place?

We reached out to BET/Viacom to find out if they would at least be extending the show's duration to one hour and Vice President, BET, Youth & Music for Viacom International Media Networks Africa, Monde Twala, confirmed that BET A-List will retain the 30-minute duration (for now).

In addition to the aforementioned team, Instagram influencer Leroy Marc and former The Search on E! contestant Ayanda Nhlapo will stay on the team as fashion and style correspondents.

When asked if such a large team was necessary, Twala responded "[the] audience wants diversity and variety. The move is part of a broader strategy to evolve and expand the entertainment value of the series for viewers. We are excited to welcome new faces that reflect our viewers to the BET family."

Which got us thinking this move is probably part of Viacom laying the ground-work for a bigger show and a few spin offs at a later stage...?

As of 25 May, BET A-List will now air at 7pm on DSTV channel 129 as opposed to its usual slot of 6:30 on Thursdays.
