HIV/Aids, diabetes and cancer can no longer be considered as the most deadliest of diseases around the world. Depression has rudely landed itself onto a long list of silent killers.

No one is immune to a condition such as depression, including our beloved well-known media personalities. ZAlebs takes a look at some of our South African media personalities that have braved out this silent killer called depression.

Nina Hastie

The television host and comedienne has previously spoken out about her dark periods of depression, which included sexual abuse and alcohol sprees. Nina has since been on the road to healing and has been living in sobriety for a couple of years now.

Lady Zamar
The South African Music Award-winning musician has also shared how she was once engulfed within the bubble of depression after falling victim of bullying back in high school. At just 16 years old, the singer already had suicidal thoughts swirling in her head. Lady Zamar has since found light at the end of the tunnel.

Gigi Lamayne
Gigi recently experienced an episode after a failed suicide attempt. 
Speaking about her ordeal in an exclusive interview with ZAlebs, she cited not feeling appreciated in the music industry and how it all became all too much to handle. The hip hop star is on the road to recovery.

Salamina Mosese
The actress and producer has openly spoken out about her struggle with depression. Her journey proves that one can bounce back from whatever floor that they have fallen flat on.

K Naomi
Although she had a brief encounter with depression, KNaomi shared that she has since learned a lot about herself in that short period.
