This weekend was quite terrible for most avid sport fans - shame askies. On one hand Manchester United lost, then there was the expected Bafana Bafana loss and who can forget the most heart-wrenching loss of all when the tennis queen herself Serena Williams got booted out of the Australian Open. Yeah, this past weekend was a long two-day nightmare and believe us when we say we empathize with all of you. Well, almost all of you.
Unfortunately, ZAlebs HQ is also filled with die-hard soccer devotees. We actually wish our readers were at our offices right now as we write this; the sombre looking faces that our colleagues are donning are hilarious.
The fan base here ranges from the mighty Gunners (Arsenal F.C), the red devils (Manchester United F.C) and the Buccaneers (Orlando Pirates). One of our team members has been chewing on his earphones for the past thirty minutes; you can tell that yesterday’s matches took a toll on him after all he is a Man United and Pirates fan. Our Editor has been rubbing his bald head as though hoping to find a string of hair, he also is an Orlando Pirates AND Bafana Bafana supporter and for some strange reason he honestly thought the national squad would win.
Now we've given our national team a lot of patience and devotion over the last few years, however Bafana Bafana’s poor performance last night had the whole nation spewing fire at their loss. Your favourite radio and television personalities also didn’t take likely to the loss. The likes of Dineo Ranaka, Penny Lebyane and Kabomo let it rip on social sites and didn’t think twice of holding back.
Dineo didn’t hold back at all and sneered at the fact that the nation actually thought the national team would win.
Former Motswako host and radio personality Penny Lebyane also added her two cents to the entire football mess, taking a jab at the actual Bafana Bafana name.
Musician and actor Kabomo (who has a new show coming up on Vuzu tilted Check Coast starting this week) made a shrewd comparison of Bafana Bafana’s performance.
Our favourite comedian Siv Ngesi showed some patriotism but insisted that he’d still make jokes out of the national team.
A frustrated Sol Phenduka expressed great annoyance at Bafana Bafana failing to do their job. Breath Sol just breath.
One of our favourite tweets derived from celebrity Tweeter, Taxi Driver Sipho who was informed to fetch our national squad with his taxi as they did not deserve to fly back to Johannesburg. We had a good chuckle with this one.
