As the whole world turned its attention to the Oscars, the most lavish award ceremony on the continent, we were all treated to the most shocking moment ever. And now our very own DJ Fresh has weighed in on the whole saga.
Nobody is going to forget any time soon, that legendary moment when American actor Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock straight in the face. This came after Chris made a joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, which she did not appreciate.

As is standard during an award show hosted by a comedian, Chris opened with some jokes. Usually, he would roast everyone present – and once in a while, a few who were absent – before proceeding to the main purpose of the occasion – the awards.
This time, he made a crack about Jada and the fact that she is bald-headed, saying he would be waiting for G.I Jane II. For context, G.I. Jane is a 1997 movie about a woman who becomes the first Navy Seal, and has to conceal her femininity by cutting off all her hair. The joke was about Jada and her buzzcut, implying that she now looks like the lead character in the movie.

Will laughed first, after which he must have noticed that his wife was not as pleased with the jab. He walked up the stage and landed a hot slap across the comedian’s face, leaving everyone in shock as they noticed it was a real slap, not staged for the show.
Social media has since erupted as everyone scrambles to try and make sense or some think pieces about the moment that will undoubtedly go down in television history.

DJ Fresh weighed in on the whole saga, saying that he thought the slap was not as hard as it should have been. He said that Will definitely did not put his back into that smack, which must mean that he would have gone harder if it were him.
Other celebrities are also weighing in on it. Carol Bouwer, in DJ Fresh’s comments, said that, while she completely understood his frustration at having his whole family turned into the butt of the joke for years, the slap was a little too far.
Lehasa Moloi, on the other hand, thought that it was all disgraceful, and that the world should forgive. It is unclear, though, whether he means Chris or Will was in the wrong.

What do you think, though? Did Will overreact or was he well within his rights to defend his wife?
