DJ Sbu on why he closed TS Records

On Sunday it was confirmed that that the record label that was responsible for many Kwaito and Afro Pop hits in the early to mid 2000's, TS Records, would be shutting down.

Although tabloids gave the idea that the closing down of the record company was because of the bad blood between its co-owners (DJ Sbu and TK Nciza) the DJ has insisted that the closing down of TS Records had nothing to do with their differences.

Instead, their decision derived from a need to grow in other aspects of their lives.

Speaking to Destiny Connect DJ Sbu explained that it was important for both men to focus on their other individual business ventures and that there was basically no time for them to place all their energy into the record label.

"TK is currently the ANC treasurer-general in Ekurhuleni and is busy on the ground with the people, with communities. Music is our first love, but we are now grown, men. We have outgrown the record company, TK is not inspired to make music right now or to look for new artists. Said the DJ.

What we found interesting is that DJ Sbu and TK started TS Records when DJ Sbu was only 21 years old and throughout the years, the record label has blessed us with a lot of hit songs, and even though this may be an end of an era, Sbu and TK have given South Africans an archive of music we'll enjoy for years to come.
