DJ Zinhle goes pink for women empowerment

DJ Zinhle has found another way to give back to South African women. The DJ and businesswoman will be sharing some wisdom with several ladies who would like to know more about the entertainment indusrty.

This will be done through the 2015 Pink Revolution Conference, which she’s been working on with her business partner and friend Nomndeni Mdakhi. The two women also founded the Fuse Academy, which is celebrating six years of existence this year.

The Fuse Academy is a DJing school which is aimed at empowering young females interested in building a career as disk jockeys within the entertainment industry. One of the school’s success stories is Ms Cosmo, who’s become one of SA’s favourite and most sought after female hip hop DJs. It’s notable that you can’t leave out the likes of Cosmo and Zinhle when listing SA’s top DJs.

Speaking on 5FM about the conference recently, Zinhle said: “We are celebrating six years of establishing the academy and we inviting all women who would like a career in the music business. Females are often overlooked and we would like to change that by empowering those interested in the industry. We’re excited and confident about our panel of speakers. We chose people that we admire and that we learn from on a daily basis.”

The conference has been described as an “empowerment event” that is focused on creating a networking platform for women interested in careers within the entertainment industry. Guest speakers on the day will include Culoe De Song, who will speak about ownership of your music and international platforms for music, Oskido, who will focus on remaining relevant in the industry, and Heavy K, who will talk about identifying your unique sound.

This will also be an opportunity for up-and-coming DJs to get the proper mentoring and guidance that they need.

The one day conference, which is opened to 150 women, takes place on 6 March at Melrose Arch.
