Gospel Industry Mourns Sipho Kaleni's Passing

Condolences are pouring in for his family

The gospel industry is mourning the loss of singer and one of the founding members of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, Sipho Kaleni.

According to a statement released via the Crown Gospel Music Awards, he passed away on Monday, 01 August after a long illness. "The World Gospel Powerhouse, is saddened to confirm the passing away of one of the founding EXCO members of the Crowns Gospel Music Awards, Sipho Kaleni. Kaleni, a gifted minister of the word, a musician, renowned MC, radio presenter and committed member of the SDA church has been unwell since about May this year and even though he showed signs of improvement over the past couple of weeks, he sadly lost the battle during the early hours this morning 01 August 2022," read part of the statement.

Kaleni was a force to be reckoned with in the gospel music industry and he played a pivotal role in planning the Crown Gospel Music Awards. He has also worked with several artists including Mabongi, Lebo Sekgobela, Bishop Benjamin Dube, Spirit Of Praise and many more.

"Kaleni was indeed the engine of the Crowns who, unbeknown to many, Kaleni was not only our Spokesperson, he played a huge role in the planning and production of the show. He was also the voice that you heard announcing presenters of the awards before they stepped on to the stage as well as the names of the nominees before the announcement of the winners," the statement continued.

“His face would only be seen during the very last scene of the show when he and the President and visionary Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule would take the stage to announce the very last awards of the night namely the Gospel song and Gospel artist of the year. Recently, he became the founding CEO of the Adventist World Radio, an achievement he was so proud of.”
Messages of condolences have been pouring in for his family.
