Breakups are no fun. Trust us, we know because we've been there. But sometimes it's really for the best. Jo-Anne Reyneke knows all about this. The actress, who split from her partner, former Generations actor Thami Mngqolo has opened up about the split.
Speaking on the Fresh Breakfast this week, she said it has been about eight-nine months since their separation.
"Because he is a great guy it’s very easy to be a co-parent with him. He’s a wonderful guy, a great dad, a good friend to me; he still thinks I’m funny, just that as partners it wasn’t working anymore."
She added: "Whenever you get to feel in a relationship like ‘maybe I deserve more’ or ‘maybe I’m not what you deserve’ it’s time to part."
Speaking about when she realised that she needed to go, she said on the radio show:
"Maybe half a year ago, because you wanna talk yourself out of and then you hear the relationship advice that every relationship goes through – it’s ups and downs so you’re like ‘maybe this is our down’ but then you’re like no dog, no dog, I can’t, I must want to come home after work... And then also, let’s be happy for our kids, our kids deserve happy parents."
She described the breakup process as mourning. "It was like a death in your life because you no longer have someone who’s checking up on you, who’s thinking for you more than they think for themselves. Now it’s just you by yourself thinking for these kids."
