Katie Hopkins attempts at a lowblow backfired on her after she picked on the wrong middle-distance runner in a display of ignorance and insensitivity.
The British media personality and newspaper columnist came after South Africa's Olympic Gold Medalist and Record Breaking 800m legend of an athlete - Caster Semenya - in a shady tweet that incurred the anger of South African Twitter.
Caster Semenya has taken the IAAF to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and is fighting to overturn a ruling that would force her to medically reduce her testosterone levels if she wanted to continue competing in female athletics disciplines.
The IAAF's new regulastions against the likes of Caster Semenya are unethical. The natural state of a being is now questioned to the effect of having to take drugs to lower testosterone level so as to be eligible to compete. That could be a discriminatory ruling in it self.
Hopkins became the latest media figure to comment on her case, but her tone and factual inaccuracy were a step too far for many:
Olympic champion Caster Semenya arrives at tribunal in Switzerland for a landmark case that will challenge how many testicles you can have to compete as a WOMAN in Olympic sport. #CasterSemenyapic.twitter.com/J7Z36qfwbd
While we don't condone abuse on social media, it is worth pointing out that Katie's original tweet was awful enough to be deemed abuse and despite being reported to Twitter several times, the writer has neither deleted it nor has Twitter taken action against her.
Needless to say, the powers that head up South African Twitter were not about to let this type of bullying slide:
This attention seeking bumbling fool still seeking attention!! Glad ur castration was a success Katie!! ✌🏼
Let's hope and pray that justice is served on this particular case; not only in the courtroom (where Caster has a strong legal team and key expert-witnesses) but on Twitter too, where abuse of this nature should never be tolerated.
