Just last week viewers of the show were lamenting the exit of Xolani Mayekiso who plays the role of Thato on the show by Ferguson Films. This week, fans will have to start accepting the imminent exit of yet another favourite, Loyiso Macdonald.
The seasoned actor who plays the character of Kagiso Khoza on the The Queen is reported to be leaving the show soon.
With Ferguson Films being notorious for axing cast members, rumour had it that Loyiso was also axed. However, according to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela's The TEA, it was the actor who decided that after 5 years of being on the show he is ready to move on.
"While MacDonald’s first prominent role was as Ntando in Isindingo, it was his role in The Queen where he played Kagiso Khoza that made him a household name. It will be interesting to see how The Queen plays out Loyiso Khoza’s exit scenes.
"The dynamic within the Khoza house will now be strange since Goodness, played by Zenande Mfenyane is back on the show and her character is tied to Kagiso," The TEA reported.
Loyiso also did not dispute the news when a fan paid tribute to him after Phil Mphela shared the news.
It is not clear right now where we will see the star next, however we do know that he is all for new faces and growth which are some of the things he touched on during his interview with Mac G on Podcast and Chill last year.
"I have no issues with new faces coming through. Otherwise, none of us wouldn't be sitting here today. And the industry is always looking for new faces. It's just that we are at a stage where people's interest in the industry has peaked so much but the avenues in terms of showing that talent are still the same. Except maybe in the last two years where Netflix has come in," he said.
During the interview it was very clear that the seasoned actor takes his craft seriously, which also translates when he is behind the camera.
Breaking down how he views the art of acting, Loyiso highlighted that it had to come within. He believes that while some form of education can play a role in making an actor great, it is skill that comes first because acting is an intellectual thing.
I'm not a spokesperson for Universities and Tertiary institutions but when it comes to art - you don't need a degree to become an actor. The most famous actors on the planet have a certificate at best. However, the studying element is still there because you still doing workshops. And again, in other countries, there's more access when it comes to that thing."
You have to look at what makes great acting. If it's not a degree and not a diploma then what is it? It's simple, you just need certain skills. You need to learn to use your body, you need to learn to use your voice, you need to learn to analyse text because acting first and foremost is an intellectual thing. It starts in the mind, it's not art. The first thing you do as an actor is that you pick up a script. You have to analyse text. You have to glean information from this piece of paper that an author has written. And then the acting comes after that."
